The Australian Consulate General in Chennai is celebrating Madras Week this year with a series of events and activities around the city.

In association with Anna University’s Centre for International Affairs, the Consulate is showcasing a photographic exhibition titled Water Science: Journeys from Australia to Madras. The exhibition profiles Australia’s knowledge and expertise of water sciences, with a special focus on Chennai and its history in irrigation and water management.

The exhibition is open for viewing to the public for the duration of Madras Week (23-27 August, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) at the Centre for Water Resources, CEG Campus, Anna University, Chennai.

The Royal Australian Navy’s combat logistics ship HMAS Success is also touring Chennai on a four-day goodwill visit during Madras Week celebrations. The ship’s crew will play a friendly match against the Prince of Arcot’s XI for the ‘Madras Week Australia-India Friendship Cup’.

With support from the Australian Consulate-General’s Direct Aid Program (DAP), members of the ship’s crew have volunteered to visit a local school to interact with students and play a game of volley ball with them.
